A little suggestion, how about renaming/moving this page to something like "Gramplets for Developers" or "How to make a Gramplet" (or merge into the other two existing pages: Writing a plugin(for Gramps version 3.2 and earlier ) and Addons development (Addons development old!)? Then we can reuse the "Gramplets" page for user facing help? This will split the technical information from the standard help? I can do this if no one objects? Yes it maybe alot of work given that many pages link here. Also we can use subpages for each of the Gramps versions to make it a bit more logical eg pagename/versionname/translationname . --Gioto (talk) 04:48, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

:: Sounds like a good idea.  It also needs Rule added as another Type of Gramplet.

:: I had added the Spanish Hello World because it was unclear to me how the localization process worked.

:: So, a Sample that originated in a foreign language would be a good exercise for an English Monoglot to learn about the translation requirements. That way, there is a better chance of their English-only designs for new Gramplets would build-in any structure needed to easily Translate their tool.

:: They would learn the purpose of the

:: 1) code <code>_("</code> (the underscore)

:: 2) string translation tables

::

:: So far, I've only been successful in adding the 2 Hello World examples. (and I found the sample code for the second had a versioning error.) I tried compositing the Built-in Filter Rules for Multiple Marriage & count of sources. But that failed as an add-on. (The objective was a new filter rule to find people with more than 2 marriages. The purpose was to find a good person in the example.gramps for a screen capture on re-ordering relationships.)

::: Renaming and freeing up this page name would be a great idea, then it could also be linked to from the features page? A number of pages that link here will need to be redirected. :::: What should I call the page? suggestions so far:

:::: * "How to make a Gramplet" - possibly not as the how to category is mostly for users and this is pretty advanced.

:::: * "Gramplets for Developers"  - don't like the wording as not in line with other development pages

:::: * "Gramplets development"  - does not sound right , but in keeping with other development pages

:::: * ??  other suggestions ??

::::::: Done renamed and all redirects & links have been updated ( No pages link to the old :Gramplets page so it is free to be reused, I'll leave that for somebody else to do.
