Welcome to Gramps!

We hope you will contribute much and well. You will probably want to read the help pages. Again, welcome and have fun! Sam888 (talk) 06:30, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, anything in particular you want me to concentrate on? GulliblePangolin (talk)
Thanks for the offer any and all help is welcome, have a look at the current user manual and see if you can expand on outdated stubs and that the manual reflects the current program interface and behavior? Thanks for the other edits :) Sam888 (talk)
No Problemo, for the user manual I gather you mean pages in the stub category? Should I be aware of anything in particular? GulliblePangolin (talk) 05:57, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Ok, Yes that is what I mean, any question please ask, I suggest you join one of the mailing list Sam888 (talk)

Using Pip to install Gramps

Is it possible? 12:48, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

Not currently due to an issue with resource paths see feature request 11404 for more details Sam888 (talk) 02:17, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for the explanation. GulliblePangolin (talk) 05:48, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

tweak on the 'address' entry

Bamaustin (talk) 07:32, 20 January 2020 (UTC) Thanks for the tweak on the 'address' entry of the Glossary with the ID addition. MediaWiki is supposed to not need ID spans when there are marked headers. But those subheading links aren't working reliably today.

Unfortunately, the ID that was added was a conflicting duplicate from the previous Glossary term. Changed it to be usable like: [[Gramps_Glossary#address|address]]

Thanks, Grand Kids visited and plans went out the door. Sorry for the partial edit. GulliblePangolin (talk) 21:53, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

Download page - using list in table

>> Linux and BSD distributions: wikify / change to list so easier to read and change / any objections?

Looks ok, go ahead and change the rest, thanks for your changes. Sam888 (talk) 04:01, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks will do GulliblePangolin (talk) 21:50, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
Looks easier to read, Thank you Sam888 (talk) 00:24, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

Add Wikipedia:Citation_templates

@Sam888 Would it be possible to install Wikipedia's:Citation_templates or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Reflist on the Gramps wiki? (We don't need the full template just a minimal version that allows us to do reflist would be good? The instructions are here I'd do it but it talks about needing extensions on mediawiki enabled. GulliblePangolin (talk) 22:00, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

I'll investigate what I need to do, but I believe yes this should be possible. sorry no ETA on when I can do it. Sam888 (talk) 00:22, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks :) GulliblePangolin (talk) 23:28, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

Add advice to download page?

I originally found the Gramps project via the Gramps reddit. At the top of the page the following advice to convert to sqlite is given. My question is this true or official advice and should added to the download page also? GulliblePangolin (talk) 23:27, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

This is likely to become a non-issue.

As the Reddit thread echoes, there was a discussion started today about removing the BSDDB backend. But their discussion has changed towards making future releases still read the old DB... but automatically convert to the new DB.

The whole process will soon become completely transparent. So there's no need to add complexity to our process. Bamaustin (talk)

Ok , but it has not happened yet so people would be experiencing the issue described and blaming Gramps! GulliblePangolin (talk) 23:29, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

Downloads page: remove debian jessie backports

>> Linux and BSD distributions: unable to find jessie backports? should I remove ? https://packages.debian.org/jessie-backports/gramps)

Yes, but I'll do it right now as the whole jessie-backport's mirror was removed March 2019![1]

Thanks for you edits to the download page. Sam888 (talk) 00:56, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

Thanks :) GulliblePangolin (talk) 20:29, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

?

I'm confused. What is the whole point of editing this wiki if you strictly forbid me from helping? I can't just edit one page, I need to improve grammar. --Chills (talk) 19:53, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

I've responded on Chills talk page, the issue was, that some pages from the old user manuals had lost page protection. thank you both for your edits on the wiki. Sam888 (talk) 02:21, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

Thanks GulliblePangolin (talk) 12:54, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
