Extract Place Data result dialog example for the Extract Place Data from a Place Title tool

The Extract Place Data from a Place Title tool attempts to extract city, state/province and zip code information from a place title.

The tools operates on places where all fields in the main location are empty.

Usage

You can access this tool via the menu Tools->Family Tree Processing->Extract Place Data from a Place Title...

The Undo history warning will be shown and you can either Stop or Proceed with the tool.

Once the report finishes the Extract Place data dialog results window will show a preview list of Places with the possible data that can be extracted from the place title. Un-select the places you don't wish the tool to convert and select the Accept changes and close button to apply the changes.

You can use the mouse or keyboard to select multiple rows at once, by using the CTRL or SHIFT keys with the mouse click, or with the space key. CTRL + A will select all rows.

The Toggle selection button will toggle the selection of all selected rows to match the top row.

You can sort the columns with a click of the column header.

Apart from the Place title column you can also manually edit the other column values if necessary by clicking on them.
